DESCRIPTION: The COPS Office School Violence Prevention Program (SVPP) is a competitive award program designed to provide funding to improve security at schools and on school grounds through evidence-based school safety programs and technology. Up to $73 million in funding is available with a maximum federal share of $500,000 per award. Each award is three years (36 months) in duration and there is a local cash match requirement of at least 25%.
WHO CAN APPLY?
States, units of local government, Indian tribes, and their public agencies, including school districts, school boards, and law enforcement agencies, are eligible to apply. Grant recipients may use funds to contract with or make subawards to local educational agencies, nonprofit organizations (excluding schools), units of local government, or tribal organizations. Schools are defined as elementary or secondary schools.
FUNDING
Up to $73 million in funding is available for FY2025 SVPP. Each award is three years (36 months) in duration for a maximum federal share of $500,000 per award. There is a local cash match (cost share) requirement of at least 25 percent.
ALLOWABLE COSTS
Allowable uses of SVPP funds include:
- “Coordination with law enforcement”
- “Training for local law enforcement officers to prevent student violence against others and self”
- “Metal detectors, locks, lighting, and other deterrent measures”
- “Technology for expedited notification of local law enforcement during an emergency”
- “Any other measure that the COPS Office determines may provide a significant improvement in security”
